The Thacher School
5025 Thacher Road, Ojai, CA 93023
Please join me for an Herb Walk in the “East End” of the Ojai Valley as we identify and sample wild plants in riparian and chaparral habitats. We’ll discuss and demonstrate their indigenous and modern uses for food, medicine, first aid, survival, drought-tolerant gardening, and much more.
This will be a slow-paced walk of about 1.5 miles round trip with very gradual elevation gain. The trail crosses Horn Creek which will provide the plants of the riparian (creekside) habitat. This walk is suitable for hikers of all levels of ability who are capable of walking that distance and standing for periods of time.
After the walk, participants will receive a list of all plants identified and discussed including common and Latin names for genus, species and family of each plant. These names can be used for continuing research online and in books but there is no substitute for a first-hand plant identification in the field.
The cost is $20 for adults, and $15 for seniors 62-and-older and full-time students. Kids 5-12 can go free with an adult by prior arrangement. Toddlers must be in a carrier. Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No dogs, please.
The group is invited to join me after the walk for lunch at HIP Vegan Cafe in Ojai for continued discussion.
Payment by cash or check is accepted on the morning of the walk. Please pre-register now by clicking the link below or by calling 805-646-6281.
