SUMMARY:Edible and Medicinal Plant Walk at Harmon Canyon Preserve
DESCRIPTION:This event is presented by the Ventura Land Trust. Please visit this event page at their website to learn more and register for the Walk.\nThe Ventura Land Trust is partnering with me again on Saturday\, May 28\, for an easy edible and medicinal plant walk at Harmon Canyon Preserve from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. \nThe walk will include plant identification and information for the beginning to experienced botanist\, herbalist\, or anyone curious about uses of wild plants. The herb walk will cover approximately 2 miles round trip in Harmon Canyon Preserve. Many useful plants\, including Blue Elderberry\, Coast Live Oak\, Black Sage\, Purple Sage\, Sagebrush\, and Wild Fennel\, make their home in Harmon Canyon Preserve’s 2\,123 acres of land\, amid roughly 1\,000 acres of endangered coastal sage scrub. All the plants are making a visible\, and much welcomed\, comeback 4 years after the Thomas Fire devastated the area. \nI will have my book\, Medicinal Herbs of California: A Field Guide to Common Healing Plants\, available for sale and signing before and after the walk. \nAll walk participants should bring a water bottle and wear sturdy shoes\, long pants\, a hat\, and sunscreen. \n\nDirections to Harmon Canyon Preserve:\nHere is a Google map and directions to Harmon Canyon Preserve. Harmon Canyon Preserve is located at 7511 Foothill Road\, near Foothill Road and Kimball Road\, in Ventura. \nDrive west on Foothill Road from Kimball Road\, then turn right onto McVittie Place before turning right into the Preserve. Do not turn right just before McVittie Place at the sign saying 7511 Foothill Rd. That driveway will take you to a dead end in an orchard. If you approach the Preserve eastbound on Foothill Road\, you must make a u-turn at Kimball Road to access McVittie Place and the Preserve. \n\nThis event is presented by the Ventura Land Trust.
