Christopher Nyerges joined Herb Walks' Lanny Kaufer for an Acorn Processing Workshop at Euterpe Farms. He brought his seasoned crew of Enrique Villaseñor, Helen Sweany and James Ruther. On the evening of the Vernal Equinox we hiked up Shelf Road on the Valley View Preserve above Ojai to see the rising of the full supermoon and the setting of the sun. Although we had a beautiful walk and saw a nice sunset, clouds on the eastern horizon obscured our view of the moonrise. It was a great walk, though, with a great group of people and lush surroundings from all the rain we've had this winter. Photos by Janeal Colbert and Susanne Lammot.

On March 9, 2019, renowned author and survivalist Christopher Nyerges, with his companions Enrique Villaseñor and James Ruther, joined Lanny Kaufer in Ojai for this workshop. A morning plant walk on the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy's Ventura River Preserve was followed by an afternoon workshop at Euterpe Farms. I took a hike up Matilija Creek with Roger House to survey the changes and regrowth in the canyon one year after the December 2017 fire.

Special guest Jim Robertson joined us for an Herb Walk in Sisar Canyon and a day of aboriginal skills practice under his direction. Activities included fire making, acorn processing, net making, flint knapping, and,for those who stayed overnight, cooking wild soup and other foods in the coals, campfire singing, archery practice, and throwing hunting sticks and atlatls.

From 1988 editions of the now-defunct Ojai Valley Voice, a comic strip by Eric Gottesman (drawings) and Lanny Kaufer (concept/content), under the pseudonyms EGGE and ELKE. The Ojai Valley Voice was published by the late Jeffrey W. San Marchi until his untimely demise on December 23, 2007.
