This book is written so that one should be able to pick up the guide, find the section of trail, locate the trailhead map and instructions, and know what to expect in the way of mileage, elevation and terrain. Each trail segment write-up has basic information. Trailhead maps and the charts can be used to get to the starting point. The trip narrative describes the general idea of the hike or ride with specific attention to the detail of forks in the trail, landmarks, and other items of interest.
From the Introduction: “Welcome to the Backbone Trail — sixty-five miles of mountainous travel from Will Rogers State Historic park to Point Mugu. Hidden in the mountain ridges and recesses, the trail guides us through woodlands, past waterfalls, over grasslands, and to remote and secluded places. Isolated from civilization, this trail offers adventure, excitement, and the opportunity to observe nature in an almost undisturbed state.”
