Please join me and Rondia for an Easter Eve Full Moon Sunset Nature Hike on Saturday evening, April 16, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. We’ll gradually walk about 1.5 miles on a well used dirt road with gradual elevation gain to the vista point above the Ojai Valley where we can watch the sunset and moonrise. The sun will sink below the horizon at about 7:15 p.m. and the full moon will rise at about 8:00 p.m., giving us a nice window of time to take it all in.
After witnessing the setting of the sun, and while waiting for the rising of the moon, we’ll take a moment to meditate on the significance of this day for Christians, Jews, naturists, believers and nonbelievers of all kinds. After the moonrise we’ll walk back by moonlight and flashlight, returning to the trailhead between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m.
On the way up, we’ll stop along the trail to meet some valuable edible and medicinal plants including:
Blue Elderberry
Coastal Sagebrush
Prickly-Pear Cactus
Horehound
Black Sage
Purple Sage and
Chia Sage
REGISTRATION INFO:
The cost for the hike is $35/person. Senior, student and child discounts are available by request. Paid registrants will receive a confirmation email a few days prior to the event with all necessary info, including what to bring, weather forecast, and directions to the trailhead. Afterwards, they also will receive a follow-up email with a list of all plants and wildlife seen.
No dogs or smoking, please. Light rain will not cancel. Heavy rain will.
