Now that Mother Nature has provided plenty of early winter rain, we’re going back to the spectacular Taft Gardens & Nature Preserve in the mountains above Lake Casitas west of Ojai. Some of the edible and medicinal plants we may find this year on the Nature Preserve include manzanita, purple and black sage, woolly blue curls, wild rose, tule, cattail, and coastal sagebrush. In the middle of our hike, we’ll celebrate the Spring Equinox on a medicine wheel at a summit with a spectacular 360 degree view. Lunch will not be provided but you are invited to stay and enjoy your sack lunch or snacks in this idyllic setting after the hike. You can also take a self-guided tour of the world renowned Taft Gardens where you’ll see an unparalleled collection of Australian and South African plants.

Meetup time is 8:45 a.m. for a 9:00 a.m. start. Total walking distance will be approximately 1 mile with sections of elevation gain, including two short steep hills. This hike is suitable for beginning hikers in good physical condition. Light rain will not cancel, heavy rain will. Registrants will be updated. No dogs or smoking, please.

The hike will finish by 12:30 p.m. After the hike I will have my book, Medicinal Herbs of California, available for sale and signing.

To prevent possible transmission of the COVID-19 virus, temperatures will be checked on arrival, face coverings will be required, and we will maintain 6 feet of physical distance at all times. Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms or a positive diagnosis is asked to stay home.

REGISTRATION INFO:
The total cost for the day is $60 which includes a $15 donation to CEF. The fee entitles nature hike participants to spend the rest of the day on this exquisite property. The donation portion of the payment is tax-deductible. This event is presented by the Conservation Endowment Fund, stewards of Taft Gardens & Nature Preserve.
