JUMP TO REGISTRATION
Join me and my special guest and local legend — naturalist-craftsman-photographer Bruce Vincent — on Saturday, November 21, in the Chumash Garden at Ojai Valley Museum as we slow down into ancestral time for an outdoor Yucca Fiber Workshop.
Enrollment includes:
• All materials and equipment
• Yucca Fiber Processing: Learn to make usable fiber from fresh yucca leaves.
• Yucca Fiber Crafts Project: Use the fiber you created to make something.
• Chumash Garden Plant Identification Tour: Learn to identify edible, medicinal, and useful plants.
• Museum Access: The Museum will open after the workshop. Admission is on a donation basis.
After Lanny’s short interpretive tour of the Ojai Valley Museum’s Chumash Garden, Bruce will demonstrate and guide participants in step-by-step processing of fresh yucca leaves into usable fiber. Then each participant will have the opportunity to make something with the fiber they created.
ABOUT BRUCE VINCENT:
Bruce Vincent has taught the ecology, wilderness skills, and ancestral crafts of Southern California since 1980, having worked for Matilija Environmental Science Area, Naturalists-at-Large, International Center for Earth Concerns (Taft Gardens), as a docent in CA State Park programs, and on private contract to schools and school districts in Ventura and Los Angeles counties. He is highly regarded as a preeminent naturalist and birder of the Ojai Valley. Bruce’s world-class woodcrafting (furniture, walking sticks and more) has brought him local legend status, with pieces displayed in the Smithsonian. He was coaxed out of retirement to lead this workshop.
