Join Emily Watson of Artemisia Academy and Lanny Kaufer of Ojai Herb Walks for a seasonal workshop on herbal remedies for supporting the immune system and easing coughs and colds. We’ll begin with a 2-hour herb walk to discover native and local plants traditionally used for respiratory health, immunity, and cold-season care. Then, in the hands-on portion, Emily will guide you through making a potent sinus steam and a delicious elderberry syrup. At the end of class, you’ll take home your remedies and the knowledge to make them again.

ABOUT LANNY KAUFER:

Lanny Kaufer has been leading Herb Walks and Nature Hikes in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties since 1976, educating hundreds of locals and visitors on the flora of the area with a focus on herbs that can be used for food and medicine. As an herbal educator, Lanny also leads workshops and presentations throughout the Ojai-Ventura-Santa Barbara area on the edible and medicinal uses of California plants. He holds a degree in Biology from UC Santa Cruz, serves on the faculty of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at California State University, Channel Islands.
Lanny is the author of Medicinal Herbs of California: A Field Guide to Common Healing Plants (Falcon Guides, 2021). Lanny hosts the Ojai Herbal Symposium and serves as chief consultant on medicinal plants for the Swimmer Medicinal Garden in Playa Vista.

Please note: This workshop will go on RAIN OR SHINE with the exception of a heavy downpour in the morning and/or a 100% chance of heavy rain that day. No dogs or smoking, please. Paid registrants will receive a confirmation email about a week prior to the workshop with all necessary info, including weather forecast and parking directions, They also will receive a follow-up email afterwards with a list of all plants identified and used, recipes, and more.
The cost for the workshop is $60. There is a $10 cash Materials fee paid directly to the instructors at the beginning of the workshop.
Cancellation policy: We will refund your payment if you notify us up to 72 hours (3 days) before the start of the event. After that we will make every effort to fill your space but cannot guarantee it.
