On Saturday evening, October 31, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., I’ll lead a Halloween Full Moon Sunset Herb Walk to a vista point above the Ojai Valley where we can watch the simultaneous sunset and moonrise. The sun will set and the full moon will rise at about 6:30 p.m., giving us a perfect window of time to take it all in. Attendance will be limited to 12 participants, temperatures checked on arrival, face coverings will be required, and we will maintain 6 feet of physical distance at all times. Anyone with possible COVID-19 symptoms is asked stay home and a refund will be issued if you notify me of COVID-19 related cancellation prior to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31. See regular cancellation policy below.
Note: The moon will be officially full at 7:49 a.m. on Saturday so it will appear full on both Friday and Saturday nights. This will be the second full moon in October, making it a “blue moon.”
We’ll meet at the Shelf Road trailhead at the top of N. Signal Street between 4:45 and 5:00 p.m. Then we’ll gradually walk about 1.25 miles to the vista point, stopping along the way to meet some valuable edible and medicinal plants, which may include:
Coastal Sagebrush
Toyon
Black Walnut
Prickly-Pear
Purple Sage and
Hollyleaf Cherry
After witnessing the sunset and moonrise, we’ll walk back to the trailhead by remaining daylight, moonlight, and flashlight, returning to the trailhead between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m.
