I knew I should’ve been taking notes, but didn’t want to hold up my husband and daughter, so of course I’m drawing some blanks when I look at my photos, mainly for the shrubs. I got laurel sumac, holly-leaved cherry, chamise (I liked what you told us about it being a good firewood in wet weather), poison oak, toyon, basketbush, desert sage, madrone, and manzanita. Thank you for leading a terrific herb walk on a perfect day. In all my years in Ventura County, that was my first venture into the Potrero. I was immediately struck by the awe inspiring view of Mt. Haddock framed by complex sedimentary rock walls forming the canyon. I was a little surprised at the diversity of the flora in the canyon. Admittedly, I probably know less about botany than anyone else on the hike. The PDF document you attached will reinforce all of the in-field learning.

Thanks for the workshop. As I shared on Saturday, it was life-changing for me. 🙂 Now, I am off to the nursery to get started planting. Matilija Nursery has hybrid sage for sale. The Datura that we soaked our hands in wore off Monday. Boy, I wished I had taken some of it with me. Thanks again. I will sign up for more classes as time permits.
