It’s not often that a full-moon rises close to the time of a setting sun and to spend it in the Ojai valley in the company of Lanny only added to the experience. Learned so much about the native flora and its uses with convivial chat (and a song) along the way. A core memory was banked. Thank you!

Oh what a glorious spring day! I convinced my hubby to join me for an @ojaiherbal walk with @lannykauferojai and oof…the beauty!!! We live in a uniquely magical place and I don’t take it for granted not even for a moment. Thank you Lanny for always bringing so much wisdom and true humility to every walk. I knew I should’ve been taking notes, but didn’t want to hold up my husband and daughter, so of course I’m drawing some blanks when I look at my photos, mainly for the shrubs. I got laurel sumac, holly-leaved cherry, chamise (I liked what you told us about it being a good firewood in wet weather), poison oak, toyon, basketbush, desert sage, madrone, and manzanita. Now I just have to go through and “study” them. The “flowers” I think I have under control. Thanks again so much. We loved Ojai.

Thank you for leading a terrific herb walk on a perfect day. In all my years in Ventura County, that was my first venture into the Potrero. I was immediately struck by the awe inspiring view of Mt. Haddock framed by complex sedimentary rock walls forming the canyon. I was a little surprised at the diversity of the flora in the canyon. Admittedly, I probably know less about botany than anyone else on the hike. The PDF document you attached will reinforce all of the in-field learning.
