In the next few days, I plan to introduce each of the guest experts who will be joining us on Saturday, December 6, for the Herb Walk and Native Landscaping Workshop. Meet Thomas Bostrom, landscape architect. Tom’s experience in landscape architecture includes 25 years in the profession following a decade in landscape construction. He is also a Certified Arborist, the founder and president of Ojai Trees, and has designed such notable Ojai landmarks as Cluff Vista Park, the Welcome to Ojai Sign, Rotary Park, and the Libbey Park Bridge to the Art Center. I got laurel sumac, holly-leaved cherry, chamise (I liked what you told us about it being a good firewood in wet weather), poison oak, toyon, basketbush, desert sage, madrone, and manzanita. Thank you for leading a terrific herb walk on a perfect day. In all my years in Ventura County, that was my first venture into the Potrero. I was immediately struck by the awe inspiring view of Mt. Haddock framed by complex sedimentary rock walls forming the canyon. I was a little surprised at the diversity of the flora in the canyon. Admittedly, I probably know less about botany than anyone else on the hike. The PDF document you attached will reinforce all of the in-field learning.
