Mallards at Wheeler Gorge Campground

I drove up to Wheeler Gorge Campground on Wednesday to check out the creek in advance of the Herb Walk at Wheeler Gorge Nature Trail on Saturday, May 10, which will take place during the Visitor Center Open House. Look at what I found in the water. I’ve seen Mallards, as well as Great Blue Herons, flying back and forth between Lake Casitas and this canyon on the North Fork of Matilija Creek but this time I found a pair (lovers, perhaps?) casually floating in the mid-week peace and quiet at this otherwise busy car-camping spot.
