This well-researched and fact-filled guide goes further than most to dive into phytochemistry. It explains the inner workings of plant medicine, such as how manzanita’s (Arctostaphylos spp.) arbutin becomes antiseptic in the urinary tract. His enjoyment and enthusiasm encourages you to go out in nature and see the natural world for what it is worth. You would hardly even know that the plants in your own backyard have specific uses both herbally , medicinally, and beauty. His herb walks makes you look at the world around you in a whole new way and that native and non-native plants in your own backyard have so much value and should be appreciated. You learn valuable skills in how to properly identify plants and what plants to avoid if you are hiking by yourself or with others.
