Seaside Wilderness Park, Ventura
Last Saturday we had a great time in very pleasant weather Herb Walking at the Seaside Wilderness Park in Ventura. The Ocean’s Edge Trail starts at the east end of the Emma Wood Group Camp, also know as the Ventura River Group Camp. It traverses a thick forest of Willow, Southern California Black Walnut, Cottonwood and Coast Live Oak before reaching the Ventura River Estuary where it crosses the railroad tracks and heads back west through the sand dunes and marshes as the Ocean’s Edge Trail. It ends back at the Group Camp. The entire loop is about 1 mile and provides an unusual opportunity to visit the Riparian, Coastal Sage Scrub and Coastal Strand plant communities, all on one trail.
For the benefit of those who joined us on Saturday, I created an album of collected photos from the Seaside Wilderness Park. Of course, you’re welcome to look at it, too. All the plant photos are labeled. Here is a link.
